We are looking at the end of History video wrong??
One Direction's music video for "History" is officially a week old. Does it still make you cry just as much as it did the first time you watched it? Yeah, us, too. But how could you hold back the tears? Our boys. They've grown so much. Zayn is there! They're dancing! They're happy! They're...NO, DON'T WAVE TO EACH OTHER AND WALK IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. YOU HAVE ONLY ONE DIRECTION. THIS IS NOT THE END. THE SONG SAYS SO.
Sadly, go their separate ways they do. It's a bittersweet message before they all embark on their own solo projects forever during a brief hiatus. But the video's directors say that we're interpreting it all wrong — and that, in fact, the ending of the video was originally meant to involve Harry, Liam, Louis, and Niall running back together in front of that brick wall.
"Originally they ran in separate directions and then they ran back together and that’s actually how it was planned," co-director Ben Winston told MTV. Cal Aurand, the group's longtime photographer and another co-director added, "I think ultimately it’s just an end to a video. There shouldn’t be anything applied deeper than that."So where is this lost footage? Will we ever see it? There's still hope. Ben says "we’ll release that footage of them coming back together" when the hiatus is over.
You hear that? It truly just is a hiatus after all! That's enough for us to make us want to do this until our boys are back:
